What is a Doula?
The Greek word doula means woman caregiver. It is now used to describe a trained and experienced labor companion who provides the woman and her partner continuous emotional support, physical comfort and assistance in obtaining information before, during and just after the birth of their child. Doulas 'Mother the Mother'! They do not, however, perform any clinical tasks as they are not medical professionals. Doulas also do not place judgement on any mother and encourage moms to advocate for themselves by being informed.
